Farm.io is an educational game that teaches players about rocks, minerals, and soils by having them run a farm and mine ore. The player must learn how to properly progress in their farm, as each soil has different properties and watering needs, and monsters can only be defeated with a sword made of a mineral that is as hard as the monster or harder. My partners and I worked directly with a third grade class to create this game. The learning topics of the game were provided by the teacher, and the students supplied the idea and name of the game.

My Contributions (Gameplay Programmer)

  • Combat

    • Attack to the left or right when the sword is equipped

    • Getting hit pushes the player back and takes half a heart

  • Inventory functionality

    • Items enter the inventory when the player is nearby and clicks on them

    • Switch which item is equipped with the keyboard numbers or clicking on the slot

    • Open the backpack to drag and drop items between the main and backup inventory

  • Crop growth tracking

    • Four plots grow crops at different rates

    • Crops only grow after having been watered and sleeping

  • Shop functions

    • Player can buy seeds, swords, and axes

    • Player can sell flowers and unneeded rocks and minerals

  • Tutorial and ending
